Darvel ‘Darv' Sampson; age 70, went home to be with the Lord on August 18, 1981. A 50 year resident he was born October 8, 1910 in Freemont Utah to Alonzo & Mary Alice Sampson. Darvel was the oldest of 11 children & grew up in Delta, Utah. He married Gwendoline Kelly in Beaver, Utah. They had 6 children & were married 40 years. ‘Darv', a carpenter by trade, helped organize the Carpenters Union in Las Vegas, Nevada. In his younger years he was a professional Rodeo rider. He always owned a roping horse and enjoyed roping as well as team roping.
God brought Darvel a second love; Virginia, They married & celebrated 12 years March 19, 1979. After retiring as a carpenter Darvel & Virginia went to the Reese River; about 70 miles out of Tonopah, Nevada, where they worked on the RO Ranch eventually returning to Las Vegas to live out his years around the family he loved - his children & grandchildren. Darvel will be remembered as a hard worker.
He is survived by his wife Virginia, 6 children, 4 step children, 18 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, several nieces & nephews, & all of his brothers & sisters.
Services were held 2:00pm, Saturday, August 22 at the Palm Mortuary Chapel – 1325 N. Main Street; Las Vegas, Nevada with burial at Memorial Palm Park, Garden of Roses with Palm Mortuary handling the arrangements.
