Hazleton Standard Speaker; Saturday, March 20, 1965:
Harry W. Knies, 81, of 632 North Vine street, died at 11 p.m. Friday at the State Hospital where he had been a patient one week. Death followed an illness of several weeks. Born in Hazleton, March 22, 1883, he was a son of the late Henry and Anna (Rudolph) Knies. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as an accountant for the John A. Leffler Construction Co. the deceased was a member of Grace United Church of Christ, Hazle Lodge No. 327, F. And A.M., and the Masonic Craftsman Club. At one time he was a member of the Hazleton Draft Board.

He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Elizabeth Krell, in 1947. Surviving are a son, Rudolph B., West Hazleton; a daughter, Mrs. Bernard (Doris) Pence, this city; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Private funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Bachman Funeral Home. Rev. William Y. Gebhard, pastor of Grace United Church of Christ, will officiate. Burial will be in the Vine Street Cemetery. Friends may call Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
