Bert Baartman, 70, Died Last Thursday
Bert Baartman died at his home on last Thursday morning, May 28, 1942, at 3:15 A.M. Death was due to heart complications following a lingering Illness. He suffered from high blood pressure and had several strokes.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, May. 30, 1942, 1:30 at the home and 2 o'clock at the First Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center. He was a member of the Protestant Ref. Church, Rev. M Critters having charge of the services. Pallbearers included: Walter Bleeker, Gerrit Bleeker, Matt Roubos, Walter Vander Wilt, Andrew Sneller and Henry Hulstein. Interment was at Middleburg.
Surviving besides the widow are the following children: Pleun Baartman of Ruthron, Minn., Mrs. Ed Holtrop of Sioux Center, Elizabeth Baartman at home, and Peter B. Baartman of Sioux Center. The oldest child, a daughter, died at the age of six years. Nine grandchildren survive. Two brothers, and three sisters also survive: Arie Baartman of Orange City, Pete Baartman of Orange City, Mrs. Lane Lems of Doon, Mra. Lane Moret of Boyden, and Mrs. H. Van Oort of Orange City. William Baartman, a brother, died at Middleburg many years ago, also another brother, Herman Baartman at Rock Valley, and 2 sisters. Mrs. John Doppenburg of Orange City, and Mrs. John Van Zee of Sanborn.
Mr. Bert Baartman was born at South Holland, Ill. on Jan. 14. 1872. For many years he farmed at Middleburg and for the past 17 years, Mr. and Mrs. Baartman have made their home in Sioux Center. Mr. and Mrs. Pleun Baartman and family of Ruthton were among those from out of town who came to the funeral.
