Floyd, the first of eleven children, was the son of Thomas Rudolph Harmon (1892-1987) and Amanda Elvira Sparks (1890-1992). Thomas was a 1st generation Texan as his father, Joe C. Harmon (1869-1939) traveled from Arkansas, met and married Mary Isabelle "Belle" Sparks (1873-1946) the daughter of Samuel Jackson Sparks (1842-1933) and Sarah A. Braswell (1858-). They raised a family of nine children, died and are buried in Stanton, Martin County, Texas.

Smith, preacher and teacher in the Green Mountain Community in West Coke County near Robert Lee. Jessie was the daughter of Elias Brown E.B. Creech (1876-1934) and Prudie Ann "Annie" Dozier (1886-1966) from the Robert Lee area. To this union were born four children, Lawana, Dorene, Jeffie and Jerry Harmon. The next 74 years the couple built a home, raised their family, worked hard in the fields and with the livestock. They were active in church, family and community activities. Floyd died at 94 surrounded by family and loved ones.
