ROBERT LEE - Jessie Harmon of Robert Lee passed away peacefully Monday afternoon, Sept. 6, 2010, in the Robert Lee Care Center surrounded by many family members and friends. Jessie was born Dec. 18, 1915, in Coke County, Texas. Her parents were Elias Brown and Prudie Ann Creech. She married Floyd Harmon on Dec. 18, 1932, in Coke County near Robert Lee, Texas. To this union were born four children, Lawana Askins, Dorene Bearfield, Jeffie Roberts and the late Jerry Harmon. Jessie was a wonderful mother and grandmother. Besides being a mother and housewife, Jessie helped Floyd in the fields and with their livestock. While raising their children she served as room mother for each of her children's classes and worked at the Trimble Laundry. She was active in the Coke County Home Demonstration Clubs and was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Jessie "Ma" loved her family and loved to join her grandchildren in their yearly Easter egg hunts. "Ma" was always "witty" and "jolly" and loved listening to and singing gospel music. In 2007, she was chosen Valentine Queen at the Robert Lee Care Center. She also loved to read, especially Western novels. She was preceded in death by her parents; 14 siblings; her husband, Floyd, of 73 years; and her son, Jerry. She is survived by children Lawana Askins and husband Foy, Jeffie Roberts and husband Bobby of Robert Lee, Dorene Bearfield and husband John of San Angelo and her daughter-in-law, Janie Harmon of Weatherford. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, MARSHALL MILLICAN , Troy Millican, Rena Conner, Rick Mashburn, Sheila Farrar, Douglas Roberts, Jeanette Lee Boyd, Darwin Harmon, Damond Harmon, Tammy Hortenstein and Jason Harmon; 16 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2010, in the Robert Lee Cemetery. Services are under direction of Shaffer Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Jessie's grandsons Marshall Millican, Troy Millican, Rick Mashburn, Douglas Roberts, Darwin Harmon, Damond Harmon, Jason Harmon; and great-grandsons Tony and Paul Mashburn, Stewart Millican, Brady Johnson, James Roberts and Hunter Hortenstein.
