Granville Stroud
Granville Stroud, 76, pioneer Kansan, died Saturday in a local hospital after a short illness.
He was born near Somerset, Ky., moving first to Wilson county near Lafontaine in 1884. He was one of the first settlers of Comanche county, leaving there in 1888 to return to Montgomery county, where he resided until 1892. The four years following were spent near Lebanon, Mo. He returned to Kentucky in 1896, coming back to Kansas in 1907. This time he lived in southern Nemaha and northwest Jackson counties until 1922 when he quit farming and moved to Rawlins, Wyo., from which place he recently returned to Topeka to visit his children. He was married to Mary Bell Brown, of Casey county, Kentucky, in 1878.
He is survived by eleven children, Mrs. Elisha Allen and Logan Stroud, of Liberty, Ky.; Ansel Stroud, of Knoxville, Ia.; Plato Stroud, of Rawlins, Wyo.; Ollie Stroud, of Pomona, Calif.; Everett Stroud, Mrs. L.J. Ketter, Mrs. J.C. McLean, Mrs. Hattie Belle Reid, Mrs. George Parr, all of Topeka; and Mrs. John Wesley, of Circleville, Kan.
Funeral services will be held at the West Side Christian church at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. Dr. Frank Richards will officiate.
