Mary Wichhart was born in Baltimore, Maryland of Prussian parents, Johann Christ Wichhart (John) (1824-1903) and Martha Elizabeth (Landgrabe) Wichhart (1835-1884).
Her siblings were Charles Henry "C. H." Wichhart (1857-1931), John C. Wickhart (a surname spelling sometimes used by the family) (1866-1944), Anna (Wichhart) Lauer (born about 1869), and Lena K. (Wichhart/Stoermer) Fritz (1873-1936).
By 1870, her family had left Baltimore and were residing in Burlington, Iowa. There Mary married Charles Brumm, the son of Carl "Charles" and Eva Juliana (Osswald) Brumm, on October 27, 1889.
They had a daughter, Selma (Brumm/Neupert/Meadows) Weyer.
Charles died in the early years of the 1890s (records are conflicting: 1891, 1892, or 1893). Mary soon remarried to Charles's older brother, John Brumm (1855-1915), and they raised her daughter, Selma.
The family moved to Texas in about 1909. Husband John Brumm died there in 1915, and soon afterwards Mary and Selma returned to Iowa, where Mary died in 1928. Daughter Selma married three times, her first two husbands both dying soon after the marriages.
