On the 1860 federal census, taken in July of that year, Charles can be found listed as 6 months old, which, if accurate, would make his birth likely to be sometime around December 1859 to early 1860. There is conflicting information surrounding the date, but he was alive at least by July 1860.
He married Mary Wicchart (1864-1928) in Burlington, Iowa, on October 27, 1889. They had a daughter, Selma, born September 18, 1890, in Burlington. Charles worked as a teamster and the family lived at 868 Iowa Street in Burlington.
He died, either in December 1891, in 1892, or in 1893. Again the records conflict.

Although not buried at Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington, they have a death date record for Charles as 12/28/1891.
Records at the Burlington Public Library list a death record of 1893. If he did die at the end of December 1891, one supposes it is possible there is an error in the year on their record, and the obituary was published in early January 1892.
