Mary M. Franzina, 80, of Stanley Hauver Drive, died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2006, at her home. Born April 29, 1926, in Apollo, PA, she was the daughter of the late Charles H. Heckman Sr. and Mary Grace Black Heckman. Her husband, Loren Wayne Franzina, died in 1986. She was a 1943 graduate of Commodore High School. She was employed by Doubleday Co. in Smithsburg for 16 years, retiring in 1987. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Greensburg, Maryland. She is survived by two daughters, Cindy L. Smith and Sharon K. Williams, both of Smithsburg; two sons, David C. Franzina of Baltimore and Thomas W. Franzina of Boonsboro; one stepdaughter, Virginia Bryrd; three sisters, Norma J. Cuda of Sciota, PA, Bessie M. Barnett of Memphis, Tennessee, and Ila M. Darnell of Olympia, Washington; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one sister, Barbara E. Brown; and one brother, Charles H. Heckman Jr. Burial was in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown, Maryland.
