SMITHSBURG — David Carl Franzina, 62, of Still Meadow Road, Smithsburg, Md. and formerly of St. Augustine Lane, Baltimore, Md., passed away Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011, in Smithsburg.
Born Feb. 12, 1948, in Takoma Park, Md., he was the son of the late Loren W. and Mary M. (Heckman) Franzina.
He was a graduate of Smithsburg High School, Class of 1967.
He retired from Gypsum Dry Wall Co. of Dundalk, Md., formerly Goldbond Dry Wall Co., and was formerly employed by Keystone Homes of Waynesboro, Pa.
He was a member of AARP.
He is survived by his son, Charles S. Shafer and wife, Penny, of Fort Carlson, Colo.; brother, Thomas Franzina and wife, Linda, of Boonsboro, Md.; sisters, Cindy Smith and husband, Dennis, and Sharon Williams and companion, Barney Barnhart, all of Smithsburg; grandchildren, Britney Shafer, Tiffany Shafer, Kimberly Shafer and Isabel Shafer; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be held Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2011, at 11 a.m. at J.L. Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg, with Pastor Julie Brigham officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown, Md.
The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
