He was born in Apollo on Jan. 18, 1897, a son of Gideon M. and Myrtle Speer Heckman.
He had formerly resided in the Apollo Area.
He was a member of Niles United Presbyterian Church, the Western Reserve Fish and Game Club, a veteran of service in the U.S. Army during World War I and retired employee of the Mahoning Valley Steel Co.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Grace Black Heckman; a son, Charles H., Jr., R.D. 2, Apollo, Kiski Twp.; five daughters, Mrs. Mary Margaret Franzina, Smithburg, Md., Mrs. Frank (Norma Jean) Cuda, Menlo Park, N.J., Mrs. Walter (Barbara) Brown, Niles, Ohio, Mrs. Guy (Mildred) Burnett, Adamsville, Tenn., and Mrs. Gerald (Ila) Darnell, Warren, Ohio; 18 grandchildren; three brothers, Charlmer and Paul, both of Apollo, and Clyde, Oklahoma Borough; a sister, Mrs. Samuel (Dora) Gallagher, Vandergrift.
Friends will be received at the Harold B. Heckman Funeral Home, 274 Franklin Ave., Vandergrift, Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. George Provance, Apollo First Methodist Church, in charge. Burial will be in Apollo Riverview Cemetery.
