Lorma Allen was the third daughter, and second youngest child in the family of Oliver "Clayton" and Bertha Leota (Lett) Brumm. Born in Burlington, Iowa, She was a 1942 graduate of Mediapolis High School (Mediapolis, Iowa), and learned the beautician trade after graduation. She owned her own beauty shop in several cities, ending up in Davenport, Iowa, for many years until after her retirement, when ill health required her to move to Michigan to be nearer her daughter, Sandi Hoge. One of Lorma's interests was family history research, and the work she did in that arena has proven very useful for those of us in the family who began to do it later.

Lorma was married to Everett LeRoy "Buck" Allen in 1946; they divorced in the 1960s.
