She was born Aug. 12, 1915, in Vincent, Ellis County, Kansas, to Ulrich and Elizabeth (Von Lintel) Berens. She was a 1933 graduate of Victoria High School.
She married Alfred A. Haas on Nov. 23, 1936, in Antonino. He preceded her in death Aug. 15, 1978. She was a devoted mother and homemaker. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Daughters of Isabella, and Christian Mothers of Our Lady Help of Christians Church, Antonino.
Survivors include seven sons, Nathan Haas and wife, Barbara, Columbia, Ill.; Father Julian Haas O.F.M. Cap., Denver, Thomas Haas and wife, Therese, Hays, Rich Haas and wife, Leona, Millersville, Md., Maurice Haas and wife, Debbie, La Crosse, John Haas and wife, Sharon, Hays and Fredd Haas and wife, Linda, Des Moines, Iowa.; five daughters, Alfreda Schmidt and Joyce Lang and husband, Tom, all of Hays, Lorraine Berland and husband, Doug, Damar, Judy Matranga and husband, Joseph, and Donna Nathanson and husband, Lonny, all of San Francisco; a sister, Irene Dinkel, Victoria; a daughter-in-law, Geraldine "Jean" Haas, Olathe; 59 grandchildren; and 51 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Norbert "Chuck" Haas; a daughter, Mary Haas; six brothers, Louis, Fidelis, Otto, Ben, Elmer and Victor Berens; and a son-in-law, Milton Schmidt.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hays; burial in Our Lady Help of Christians Cemetery, Antonino.
Visitation will be from 6:15 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., both at the church.
There will be a combined Daughters of Isabella and Christian Mothers of Our Lady Help of Christians Church rosary at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, followed by a vigil at 7 p.m., all at the church.
