Rhoda 'Atchley' Long. He was the
grandson of Rev.George Washington
Long 1 and Nancy Elizabeth 'Maples'
Long. Also, Thomas Atchley and Lydia
'Richards' Atchley.
John married Harriet Ruth Ware on
August 13, 1885.
The couple had one child,
Ethel Long.
The baby girl died at the age of 3
months old in 1886.
He was a farmer and also tanner of
leather goods, as was his father,
Moses.
John Long 111 served in the artillery
of the Confederate States Army, under
the command of Captain Lynch.
He was at the siege of Vicksburg and
was taken as prisoner of war to Camp
Morton, Ind., where he remained until
cessation of hostilities, having been
a prisoner for about another year.
John was a member of the Salem Baptist
Church and lived in the community
he was born in until his death.
