Mabel is my great-great-aunt.
Mabel Curtis Ence was born Tuesday, February 9, 1897 in Aurora, Utah to John Franklin Curtis and Sarah Elizabeth Broadhead. She was the seventh of eleventh children.

She married Duane Henry Ence on October 1, 1919 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

Mabel was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, belonging to the Wells Ward and Grant Ninth Ward. She was active in the Relief Society.

Mabel was a teacher and taught in the Granite and Sevier school districts, retiring after several years of service.

In 1934, she moved to the Salt Lake Valley, where she lived for thirty-four years. From 1934 until 1936, she resided at 324 East Hollywood Avenue (1965 South) in the Liberty Wells neighborhood of Salt Lake City. From 1937 until her death, she resided at 720 East Springview Drive (3190 South) in Millcreek.

Mabel passed away of natural causes on Friday, June 21, 1968 at LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, June 25, 1968 at 1:00 p.m. in the Grant Ninth Ward Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 711 East Jepson Avenue (3225 South) in Millcreek. A viewing was held on Monday, June 24, 1968 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Curtis-Mackay Cottonwood Mortruary located at 4670 South Highland Drive in Holladay, and one hour prior to the services at the church on Tuesday.
Mabel was laid to rest following the conclusion of the funeral services at Memorial Gardens of the Valley (now Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery) in Sandy.

Funeral services were held under the direction of Bishop Myron E. Stam.
The family prayer was offered by Ruel Curtis.
The prelude and postlude music was offered by Maureen Clark.
The invocation was offered by Kenneth Curtis.
Musical numbers performed included: "Piano Solo," which was performed by her granddaughter, Kerry Dawn Poulsen; and "Musical Medley," which was performed by her nephew-in-law, Normand Gibbons.
Speakers included: Richard Curtis Ence, Clarence H. Maxwell, Bishop Glenn Christensen, and Bishop Myron E. Stam.
The benediction was offered by Deloy Ence.
The grave was dedicated by Harry Keate.
Pallbearers included: Kent Curtis, Dale Curtis, Kay Curtis, David Curtis, Rex Curtis, Jack Curtis, Gordon Curtis, Gerald Curtis, Don Nageli, Stephen Poulsen, Brent Nageli, and Glen Nelson.
Honorary pallbearers included: Grant Ninth Ward High Priests Quorum.
