First born daughter of Samuel and Mary. Wilkes-Barre city cemetery records have Mary Eliza's DOB as 1853 which must be incorrect as immigration records for Samuel and Mary have been found and they arrived in NYC on 14 Aug 1854 with no baby in tow. Her brother William applied for the burial permit. She died of consumption.

The death of Miss Lizzie Smurl, who for nine years lived with Mrs. Jonas Long, occured Saturday evening at 6:30. She had been ill for a long time, but did not give up or take to her bed until Sunday, Jan. 15, one week before her death. She was removed from Mr. Long's at her own request, to the home of her brother, Contractor William Smurl, of 82 Northampton Street, from which place she will be buried to morrow afternoon at 3 pm.
