There is solid evidence through the U S Census that she was a daughter of Wilson and Elizabeth Jones. Could they have named this child in honor of the first Mary Jane who had passed away several years before? This Mary Jane married William Penn Barton. What relation he was to William B. can be anyone's guess. In 1820 the U S Census for Marrs Township identified five Barton families farming in the area: John Barton, Daniel Barton, William Barton, Alexander Barton and Willy Barton. A good deal of information has been gathered concerning this second Mary Jane. She is buried in the Phillips Cemetery located at Farmersville, Posey County, Indiana. Where the first Mary Jane is interred has not been confirmed; however, the fact that her son Wilson and other member of the Jones' clan are buried in the Samuel Jones Cemetery/Graveyard, it is likely her grave is located there also. No headstone had been discovered, however. Her husband William B. Barton and his second wife Nancy are both buried in the Downen Cemetery north of the town of Mount Vernon.∼Mary was the daughter of Michael and Nancy (Clark) Jones and it is assumed that Mary was born between the birth of her brother Samuel (1815) and sister Malinda (1819). Her parents had established a farm in Black Township, Posey County, Indiana in the early 1800s and Mary most likely was born on the family farm. Severel family trees in Ancestry.com have identified Mary as having married William Bradford Barton (1813-1892) on November 19, 1837 in Posey County, Indiana. The same sources recorded that the couple had four children: Louisa (1840-1934), Willis (1841-1931), Wilson G. (1842-1886) and Samuel R. (1844-1935). The fact that the U S Census prior to 1850 listed only the name of the head of the family, it is impossible to identify family members other than by age brackets. The family trees recorded that Mary died about 1845 in Posey County. She was not mentioned in her father's will which was probated in 1846. The 1850 census for William and his family lists his wife's name as Nancy. He had married Nancy Green-Duckworth in 1848 and later married for the third time. Where Mary is interred has not been discovered, but most likely it is some cemetery located in Posey County, Indiana where she spent her entire life.
