Elizabeth Downen, the daughter of William and Margaret (Robinson) Downen, early Posey County, Indiana pioneer family, was born in Meklenburg County, Kentucky on February 25, 1797. She and her family migrated to southwestern Indiana Territory where they arrived at what is now Posey County in 1811. It was in Black Township that her parents established a homestead. When she was eighteen, she married Wilson Jones on March 14, 1815 at Mount Vernon, Indiana. One source states the date March 11. Her father-in-law was the Reverend Samuel Jones, first minister to preach in Posey County and minister of the Farmersville Primitive Bethel Baptist Chruch. Both Elizabeth and Wilson were members of this church. Wilson developed a farm in Black Township north of the town of Mount Vernon near other farms established by her parents and other members of the Downen, Jones, Duckworth and Givens families. The couple was reported to have had fifteen children: Isiphena, Louisa J., William D., Samuel R., Mary Jane, Elizabeth, Margaret E., Angeline, Emaline, Evaline, Elva, Levitus B., Leroy and Angelitha. A second daughter named Isiphena has been identified also as their child. Elizabeth died in 1895 in Posey County and it is family tradition that she is interred in the Samuel Jones family graveyard. Her gravesite and that of her husband Wilson has not been identified.

"Elizabeth last shows up on a US census in 1850. I checked the 1860/70/80 census records of each of her 15 children & she is not living with them. Therefore she died sometime after the 1850 census & before the 1860 census."
I own the original of the picture on this site & she is my g-g-g grandmother. I also have pictures of 10 of her 15 children.
