Bamberg - Ruby Lee Carrigg Spires Davis, 81, a retired employee of Bamberg Textile Mill, died Friday in an Orangeburg nursing home. The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Sunday in Thompson Funeral Home in Orangeburg. Burial will be in Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery near Norway. Mrs. Davis was born in Orangeburg County, a daughter of Charles H. Carrigg and Jeanette Iva Fogle Carrigg. She was the widow of Marion S. Davis and was first married to the late Thurmond D. Spires. Surviving are three daughters, Carolyn Black of Orangeburg, Marie Jensen of Cordova and Deborah Smoak of Florida; three sons, Dwight Spires and Kenneth Spires, both of Branchville, and Ronnie S. Spires of Bamberg; two sisters, Delores Wooten of Florence and Alma Robinson of Orangeburg; two brothers, Johnnie Carrigg of Orangeburg and Shelley Carrigg of Denver; 15 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. © The Post and Courier, Charleston, SC, 28 Mar 1998
