Fred Bringmann Chilton Times December 12, 1908
Fritz Bringmann, as he was called by his neighbors and friends, was born in Germany, March 1, 1832. In 1852 he came to America, going to Buffalo, N.Y., where he remained three months and then came to Wisconsin and located at Menasha. At this place on April 1, 1850, he was married to Augusta VonDrey and in the fall of 1859 they moved into the woods in the town of Rantoul and began the struggle which so many of the pioneers of those days went through.
Mr. Bringmann was an industrious and thrifty man and soon had a house erected and a small clearing surrounding it. They suffered many privations but his determination to succeed enabled him to overcome the numerous opposing forces of pioneer life and in his old age to enjoy a comfortable farm home.
In 1869 while assisting at one of his neighbors, Mr. Bringmann had the misfortune to lose his right leg in the machine. This accident would have discouraged an ordinary man, but not so with Fritz Bringmann. As soon as he was able to get around he continued his work on the farm and succeeded in adding more acres to his holdings. He followed farming until some ten years ago when the homestead was purchased by his son, William, and since that time he has lived with the latter and taken life easy.
In the sixties he was elected chairman of the town and also held the office of Assessor. For some years he acted as Auctioneer and his services were in great demand in different sections of the county. He was a patriotic and loyal citizen and took considerable interest in public affairs, but more than all else he was an honest, upright man and was always found in opposition to everything that in his opinion was not for the best interest of his fellowmen.
He is survived by a widow, three sons, Fred. Ernst and William of Rantoul, and six daughters, Augusta of Rantoul, Mmes. John Jesse of Antigo, Jacob Reiss of Calumetville, H. F. Pingel of South Stockbridge, J. M. Crawford of Thiensville, Claus Thiel of Wayside, also one brother, John of Rudolph and one sister, Mrs. H. F. Lards of Neenah.
