Marc was a son of J. Elijah Chase and his first wife. Marc was a horse jockey (he loved racing horses) and a farmer. Marc first married Josphine Moore, a daughter of Joseph and Luana Moore. Their wedding took place on November 21, 1879 in Iowa. He and Josephine had several children. After Josephine's death in 1897, Marc married Martha Gerth on December 29, 1898 in Fort Dodge (Webster County), Iowa. They had four known children; two sons and two daughters.
