The Clifton Advocate September 12, 1935 Gaspard J. Libert

Gaspard J. Libert was born Sept. 8, 1843 in Belgium and died at his home south of town Sept. 7, 1935, aged 92 years and 2 days.
When he was between twelve and thirteen years of age he came with his parents to the U. S. landing in Kankakee the fore part of may 1856. He spent all his life in this country on farms in Kankakee Co. and Iroquois Co. in the occupation of farming.
October 29, 1866, he was united in marriage to Leah Marie Philimon Boutin, and to this union were born two sons, Lucien and Henry, and three daughters, Eva, Lucy and Josephine. Of these the two sons are dead, the daughters Eva (Mrs. Joseph Gravelle) and Misses Lucy M. and Josephine M surviving. There are four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Other surviving relatives are two brothers, Rev. Julian G. Libert, of Peoria, and Mr. Felician J. Libert, of Bradley.
He was buried from St. Peter’s Church, Clifton, Rev. Fr. Sweeney officiating and interment in the Clifton Catholic Cemetery. The following, as pall bearers, carried him to his last resting place; Florent Nakaerts, Wm. Yonke, George Sanders, Pat Cloonen, Emile Fronville, and John Gravelle.
Thus passes from our midst another of that great class of good citizens. One who tended his crops, marketed them, raised his children in the fear of God, educated them, paid his just debts, supported his church, and came at last to a serene old age, his conscience clear in the knowledge of an upright and honest past. Such men make little stir in the communities where they lived peaceably with their neighbors. but of such is the solid foundation of our country established.
Thanks God for the Gaspard Liberts of our nation. They are the ones who always have brought it through every crisis, and who will save it in future disasters.
