Mrs. Gaspard J. Libert
Summoned by Death
Was a Well Known Early Resident of This Part of the County.

Mrs. Gaspard J. Libert died at her home in Ashkum township Thursday, January 8, 1920, at the age of 71 years, nine months and thirteen days. The funeral was held in Clifton Monday January 12.
Mrs. Libert had not enjoyed good health for many years, but the illness which preceded her passing away was of brief duration.
She had been a resident of this vicinity 47 years and was, with her husband, one of the pioneers who have known and been known by practically all who have followed them as citizens. No citizens of this section have been more highly esteemed and respected by their neighbors. They have lived quiet, peaceful, industrious lives, true to all the ties they hold dear. The passing away of Mrs. Libert occasioned sadness in this community and the bereaved husband family have the sincere sympathy of all in their great sorrow.
Lea Marie Philimon Boutin was born in Quebec, Canada, March 25, 1848. She was a daughter of Joseph Boutin and Emilia (Constantine) Boutin of Quebec and came, with her parents to St. George, Kankakee county, Illinois, in 1856.
She was married to Mr. Gaspard J. Libert at St. George October 29, 1866, and came to Clifton in 1873.
Seven children were born to this union. Adolphus and Oliver were the first born and died in infancy. Rev. Lucien G. died December 5, 1919. Her husband, Mr. Gaspard J. Libert, survives her, and three daughters and one son, namely; Eva, Mrs. Joseph Gravelle; Henry F. Libert; Misses Josephine M. and Lucy M. Libert.
Mr. and Mrs. Libert celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary Sunday, October 29, 1916. The event was observed with special religious services in St. Peter’s Church and a reception was held in the opera house. There was shown at that time the finest expressions of high consideration on the part of their friends.
Mr. and Mrs. Libert gave to the Church their oldest son, and he, with Christian patriotism , served our country as a Chaplain in France. His death a few weeks ago brought the most profound sorrow to his parents and family and the loving mother, whose physical condition was not of the best, was affected quite perceptibly in health from that time.
Solemn High Mass of Requiem was celebrated by Rev. Father J. G. Libert, brother-in-law of the deceased and pastor of St. Peter’s Church, Clifton; Rev. Father Rimmels of Ashkum, Deacon; Rev. Father Timmons of Watseka, Sub-Deacon. The sermon was preached by Rev. Father Lebon of L’Erable.
Interment was made in Clifton Catholic Cemetery.
The pall bearers were Messrs. Ed. Cloonen, Sr., Robert Donnelly, George Sanders, Louis E. Reuse, Henry Hattenburg and Emile Berger.
