Clara Marie Akers, 84, of Elkton, died Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at Avante Nursing Home in Harrisonburg, VA. She was born April 26, 1925 in Rockingham County and was the daughter of the late Monroe Calvin and Carrie Hanes Dovel.

She worked as a seamstress with Rockingham Sleepweear and also was a member of St, Peter's United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband Hansel Akers on November 28, 2006.

Her surviving family includes brothers, Lynwood Dovel and Layton Dovel both of Elkton; sisters, Irene Hughes of Elkton, Margaret Sipe of Inwood, WV and Maxine Day also of Elkton; devoted friends that she loved, Halley and Jackson Cole, along with other extended family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11 am Monday January 4, 2010 at the Kyger Funeral Home Chapel in Elkton with the Rev. Jimmy Kite officiating.

Burial will follow in the Eastlawn Memorial Gardens in Harrisonburg.

The family will receive friends at the Elkton funeral home on Sunday evening from 6-8 pm and at other times at the family's residence on Newton Road in Elkton.
