Lynwood L. Dovel, 84, of Elkton, died Sunday, July 27, 2014, at his home.

Arrangements are being handled by Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton.

Lynwood L. Dovel, 84, of Elkton, passed away July 27, 2014, at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born in Elkton on February 1, 1930, the son of the late Calvin Monroe and Carrie Haynes Dovel. He was a graduate of Elkton High School, and served in the Army from 1951 to 1953. He attended Elon College and Madison College (now James Madison University).

Lynwood began his 38-year-long career in banking in the book-keeping department at Rockingham National Bank in Harrisonburg. In 1974, he was named vice president and branch manager of the Farmers & Merchants Bank in Elkton and he held those positions until his retirement in 1995.

He was a member of the McGaheysville Ruritan Club for 50 years, and attended Evangelical United Methodist Church in Elkton.

Lynwood is survived by his wife of 58 years, Louise Frazier Dovel; his son, Kevin Dovel, and Nancy Sours of Elkton; his daughter, Melynda Dovel Wilcox and her husband, David, and his twin grand-daughters, Amanda and Laura Wilcox, of Alexandria, Va.; one brother, Layton Dovel of Elkton; and three sisters, Irene Hughes and Maxine Day, both of Elkton, and Margaret Sipe, of Inwood, W.Va.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 11, at 11:00 a.m. at the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Elkton. A private graveside service will take place at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 10, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Evangelical United Methodist Church, 513 E. Spotswood Avenue, Elkton Virginia 22827 or to the Friends of the Elkton Area Community Center, c/o Treasurer, Douglas L. Berry, P. O. Box 53, Elkton, VA 22827.
