Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Roley Christian Church for George W. Beard, 72 years old, who died at his home in South Campbellsville Friday morning after a brief illness. Rev. E. P. Gast, pastor of the Campbellsville Christian Church, conducted the services and burial was in the Roley Church Cemetery. Mr. Beard was a native of Adair County and was born there on October 6, 1868. He has made his home in this community for many years and is well known throughout the county. He made profession of faith early in life and united with the Roley Christian Church and served several years as a deacon. He later moved his membership to the Campbellsville Christian Church, of which he remained a faithful member until death. He was married to Miss Melvena Chelf in January, 1894. He is survived by his widow; five sons: Grover Beard, Adair County; Harvey Beard, Hinckley Ill.; Charles Beard, Campbellsville; Maurice Beard, Kingman, Ind.; Calvin Beard, of this city; three daughters: Mrs. Eddie Goode, Louisville; Mrs. William Murrah, Taylor County; Mrs. Garnett McKinley, Vine Grove; four brothers: W. T. Beard L. T. Beard, R. L. Beard, Casey County, and J. A. Beard, of Craton, Mo.; 17 grandchildren and many other relatives. Active pallbearers were Willard Burress, Ira Tucker, Ira Vaughn, Welby Knifley, Dr. S. L. Dunbar, and J. L. Hatfield. Honorary pallbearers were Oliver Murrell, McClelland Goode, Omer Goode, L. B. Hilton, J. C. Miller, Oscar Patton, R. L. Gowdy.
