Harvey M. Beard, 89, of DeKalb, died Thursday, Jan. 5, 1989 at Pine Acres Retirement Center in DeKalb.

He was born Aug. 25, 1899 in Casey Creek KY., the son of George and Melcina Beard. He married Inez R Buerer in Pierce Township on May 14, 1929.

He farmed in Hinckley, Kaneville and Big Rock and later was a barber in the DeKalb-Sycamore area. He was a partner of the Welcome Lanes bowling alley in DeKalb. He was a member of the Pierce Community United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Inez; one daughter, Reva (Paul) Johnson, of Dodgeville, Wis.; one sone, Curtis (Virginia) Beard of Alderwood Manor, Wash.; eight granchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Rev. Morris Beard of Plano Texas, and Calvin Beard of Campbellsville, KY; two sisters Hazel Murray and Gladys McKinley, both of Campbellsville, KY; and several nieces and Nephews.

The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Pierce Community United Methodist Church with Rev. Mary Jo McDougall officiating. Burial will be in the East Pierce Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home in DeKalb.
