Published in The Paducah Sun (McCracken Co., KY), Tues., 10 May 1960 - WOODVILLE, Ky., May 10 - Mrs. Rosa May Walker, 87, a lifelong resident of Woodville, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Joe Tilford, at 2 a.m. Tuesday.

Mrs. Walker had been an active member of the Bethel Christian Church for 70 years.

She was the daughter of Meredith Beck, first settler of Woodville, and was born September 1, 1873, in the community. The Tilford home where Mrs. Walker died is located on the old site of the Hudson Girls School in Woodville from which she graduated.

Her father owned a farm adjoining that of Thomas Jefferson's in Virginia before coming to Kentucky. He attended the private tutoring school with Thomas Jefferson's daughters at Monticello.

Mrs. Walker helped organize the dedication of the Bethel Church in 1953 by the late Alben W. Barkley, then vice president. She helped supply information on the church history.

She had been a widow for 44 years before her death.

Surivivors include three sons, Leonard and Earl Walker, both of Kevil
Rt. 1, and Meredith Walker of Kevil Rt. 4; two daughters, Mrs. Joe Tilford of Kevil Rt. 1 and Mrs. Jim Scott of Kevil Rt. 4; a brother, R. M. Beck of Blytheville, Ark.; a sister, Mrs. Alma Jenkins of Kevil Rt. 4; 11 grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Bethel Christian Church with the Rev. W. W. Morris and Rev. Carl Smith officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Honorary pallbearers will be Marvin Stone, Claude Murphy, George Tilford, S. E. Lanier, Cap Fauntleroy, Henry Luckett, James Allen and Atlas Knott.

Active pallbearers will be Morris Stone, Lee Tomlinson, Paul Lanier, Rickey Stone, Marshall Stevens and Holbert Davis.
