Eveline Tumey was born in Lawrence county, Ind., Sept. 28, 1843, died Sept. 24, 1909, being 65 years 11 mo. and 26 days old. She was a daughter of Isaac and Jane Callahan and one of a family of 13 children of whom only two brothers survive, Alex and Elisha Callahan, of Bedford.
She joined the Christian church at New Union early in life.
She was married to Oscar Tumey in the spring of 1870 and was left a widow in Oct. 1873. To this union was born two children, Belle Donnie and Arlie Nettie Tumey, of whom Belle Donnie survives.
Aunt Eveline, as she was called, was a good and kind mother, friend and neighbor.
Her last 12 years of life had been devoted to had been dedicated to the care of her two orphaned grand children Johnnie and Lola Harvey. Aunt Eveline will be missed by a large circle of old friends and neighbors.
Her nature was of the sunny quality and no matter how lonely during those 36 years of widowhood, she was always sweet and pleasant. Faith and hope and love were the pillow of her Christian life.
We are all made better by her life or patient toil and gentle spirit.
The remains were buried at Shiloh, after short funeral services by J. Williams, of this city.
