Bio: Lavina Bankhead Riggs Kesler, daughter of John Henderson and Nancy Crosby Bankhead, was born 24 December 1852 in Cottonwood, Utah. The Bankhead family settled in Wellsville in 1860. She received her early schooling there and then went to Logan to finish her education and gained a teacher's certificate. When she was about nineteen years old, she taught the lower grades in the new rock school house in Wellsville. The rock school house was later converted into a dwelling, which was later purchased by Herman Theurer. Lavina married Egbert Zial Riggs 25 May 1874 in the Endowment House; and they had two sons, Bert and John. They were divorced August 8, 1877. She later married Fredeck Kesler, April 9, 1896 in Tooele, Utah; they had one son, Fredeck. Lavina and family moved to Idaho in 1902 (near Alexander) to homestead and make their home. She died 9 January 1920 and is buried in the Wellsville cemetery.
