Egbert was only nine years of age when his family, with a group of six other families, carne to Cache Valley 15 September 1856 to make a permanent settlement.
Egbert's father homesteaded some fertile land east of what is now Wellsville, Utah. Egbert helped on the farm until he married Lavina Nancy Bankhead 25 May 1874 in the Endowment House in Salt Lake City, Utah. Two boys were born to them, Bert and John, This marriage ended in divorce August 8, 1877.
Egbert later married Ann Elizabeth Perkins 27 April 1881. They raised a large family of nine children: Ann Emeline, Samuel, James, Martha Marvilla, George Albert, William Henry, Emma LeaRue, Earl, and Melvin.
Egbert homesteaded a place due south of Wellsville near Sardine Canyon. They had quite a lot of trouble with the Indians but were never harmed. The family accumulated a large herd of milk cows and horses. He broke up and leveled the ground until it produced a fine crop. He was very successful at farming and part of this success was due to the faithful support of his wife and children. Egbert was stacking hay on his ranch one day when he fell from the stack and was injured severely. He had poor health from then on. Egbert died 9 April 1909 at Mt. Sterling, Utah and is buried in the Wellsville cemetery.
