Funeral services were held Wednesday morning, April 30 at the home at 9:15 and at St. Patrick's church in Kandiyohi at 10 o'clock, for Moses John DeFoe, long time resident of the Atwater community. Father Josph Lord officiated at requiem high mass. Mrs. Walter Hackett and Mrs. George Downs of Willmar furnished the music for the service. Pallbearers were Wilbur Wheeler, James Dowdell, Hugh Tait, Howard Reamer, Ronald Tait and Ben Sackreiter. Interment was at St. Mary's.

Moses John DeFoe, eldest son of John DeFoe and Mary Franklin DeFoe, was born December 17, 1868 at Newport, Minnesota. He passed away on April 26 at the age of 78 years, four months and nine days, following a three month illness of a heart ailment.

He was three years of age when his family moved to Kandiyohi county where they purchased a farm in Harrison township. He was united in marriage with Ida Mae Dibble on June 7, 1894. Two children were born to this union, Horace and Hazel. Mrs. DeFoe passed away in 1925 and in 1927 Mr. DeFoe moved to Atwater where he resided the past 20 years. For several years he was manager of the Farmers Cooperative Shipping Association.

Surviving are his two children, Horace, his daughter-in-law and three grandchildren, Stanley, Melba and Merle DeFoe, of Austin, Minnesota and Hazel at home, who tenderly cared for her father during his final illness. Two brothers died in infancy and another brother, Peter, passed away eleven years ago. A sister, Mrs. Ed French, also preceded him in death.

Mr. DeFoe was a kind friend and a good neighbor ready to help in all worthy causes, and the many beautiful floral offerings gave testimony to the high esteem in which he was held by his many friends.

Attending the funeral services from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Louis Dufault of Grand Forks; Mrs. Joseph Dufault, Napolean Dufault, Mrs. Frank LaChance of Crookston; Peter Dufault of Browerville; Mrs. L.E. Larson, Mrs. George Smith and Mrs. Leslie Larson of Cottonwood; Mrs. Robert Middleton of Marshall; Mrs. Harold Friend of Minneota; Walter Larson of Milroy; Mr. and Mrs. Edward Tait, Miss Mary Sanderson, Mrs. Marshall Snyder, George Goodspeed, Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Hanratty and Robert Peterson of Minneapolis; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Nelson of St. Paul and Mrs. George Anderson of Litchfield; Mrs. Frank Burns of New London and Miss Clara Jacobson of Austin. There were also many in attendance from Willmar, Kandiyohi and Atwater communities.
