Charity was born the daughter of John Stewart and Agnes Warren, both of Franklin County Virgina. When Charity was a one-year-old baby her parents emigrated with aunts, uncles, and cousins into Tennessee in 1814. She grew up there.

Then, Charity moved with her parents to Macoupin County Illinois when about 16 years old in 1829. She became a young lady in Illinois and married James Harvey McPeeters on December 23 of 1832 there.

She and James emigrated into Andrew County MO in 1841 and farmed near the Zachariah W. Richards and Caleb D. Richards families. They were also next door neighbors to Charity's brother, Peter Cartwright Stewart and his family.

By 1859, Civil War strife had forced James to take his family into Texas for safety. Charity and son Charles had passed on, apparently buried in MO.
