WAYNESBORO, Pa. - J. Norman Peiffer, 84 of 13409 Old Mill Road,
Waynesboro died Monday, Jan. 23, at the Waynesboro Hospital.

Born in Chambersburg, Jan. 30, 1910, he was the son of the late . Aaron G. and Carrie Sleighter Peiffer.

He was employed by Victor Tool Co. in Waynesboro; then owned and operated the Shell Station at 302 E. Main St., Waynesboro. He then entered the service; upon discharge from the service he repurchased the Shell station. He then purchased the Jesse Baer Heating Oil business, which was changed to Peiffer's Heating Oil, retiring in 1985.

He was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Quincy, Pa.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, having served in the European Theater with the 772nd Tank Destroyer Battalion.

He was a member of Joe Stickell American Legion Post No. 15, Waynesboro; the National AARP; the Acacia Lodge 586 Free and Accepted Masons, Waynesboro; the Harrisburg Consistory A.A.S.R; and the Zembo Shrine Club A.A.O.N.M.S., Harrisburg, Pa.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marie H. Hershey Peiffer, whom he married July 20, 1937; a sister, Helen L Minnich of Waynesboro; seven half-sisters, Lenora Shatzer of Hagerstown, Kathryn O'Donnel and Saundra Huber, both of Fayetteville, Pa., Mary Jane Hoffman of Waynesboro, Margaret Wagaman of Mont Alto, Pa., Shirley Speelman of Chambersburg, and Trudy Wagaman of Springfield, Va.; six half-brothers, Charles A. Peiffer, Kenneth L. Peiffer, Lowell E. Peiffer and Gerald E. Peiffer, all of Waynesboro, Arthur A. Peiffer of Hagerstown, and frederick D. Peiffer of Mercersburg, Pa.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, V. Ruth Peiffer and Evelyn Shadle; two brothers, Lester Peiffer and Harold Peiffer.

Services will be at 3:30 pm Thursday at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, with the Rev. Suzanne P. Perez officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 8, where Masonic services will be conducted by his lodge at 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 176, Quincy, Pa 17247.
