HAROLD R. (STUMP) PEIFFER, 57, of 41 W. Eighth St., died at 5:15 a.m. today at the Waynesboro Hospital. He had been confined to the hospital in a critical condition since suffering a heart attack on Monday.

Mr. Peiffer was born in Chambersburg, Oct. 22, 1912, son of the late Aaron G. and Carrie Sleighter Peiffer.

He had lived in Waynesboro since he was two years old. For a number of years, Mr. Peiffer was employed at the Fairchild-Hiller Corp. and later worked at the Vertol Corp. in Philadelphia. For the past eight years he was employed as a machinist at Mack Truck Inc. He and Mrs. Peiffer had made their home at the West Eighth Street residence since their marriage in' April 1949.

Mr. Peiffer was a member of the Otterbein U. B. Church.

In addition to his widow, Mrs. Marie H. Becher Peiffer, he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Joseph Kauffman, South Mountain, one granddaughter, and his step mother, Mrs. Ruth Sprenkle Peiffer, Waynesboro. Also surviving are these brothers and sisters: D. Lester Peiffer, Greencastle; J. Norman Peiffer and Mrs. David H. Minnich, both of Waynesboro; Miss Ruth Peiffer, Harrisburg, and Mrs. Norman Shadle, Chambersburg. He is also survived by these half brothers and half sisters: Charles A. Peiffer, Kenneth L. Peiffer, Gerald E. Peiffer, and Mrs. George Hoffman and Mrs. Elvin Wagaman, all of Waynesboro; Arthur G. Peiffer, Lowell E. Peiffer, and Mrs. Herbert Shatzer, all of Hagerstown; Fred D. Peiffer, Mercersburg; Mrs. R. J. O'Donnell, Marion, Va.; Mrs. David Speilman and Mrs. Lester Huber, both of Chambersburg, and Mrs. Ray Wagaman, Falls Church, Va.

The funeral will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Grove Funeral Home in charge of the Rev. Wilber Sites. Burial will be made in Green Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday.
