A member of the Methodist Church, he was a trustee of the Statesboro First Methodist Church, as well as a Mason. He was active in many other local organizations. He was vice president of the First Federal Savings and Loan Association here. Even at the age of 79, Mr. Cone was a golf enthusiast and was regularly seen at the Forest Heights golf course here.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Charles E. Cone, Statesboro; four sons, Charles Basil, Vidalia, James W., Edward O., both of Statesboro and Dr. John H. Cone, Thomasville; four daughters, Mrs. R. H. Tolbert, Athens, Mrs. John H. Cassell, Fort Knox, Ky., Mrs. David Tollotson, Jacksonville, Fla., and Mrs. B. R. Snooks Jr., Alley; two sisters, Mrs. O. P. Harper, Napa, Calif., and Mrs. W. E. Lyndenberg, St. Petersburg, Fla.; two brothers, C. H. Cone, Stilson, and Dr. Wesley Cone, St. Petersburg; and ten grandchildren.
Funeral Services were held Friday at 3 p.m. at the Statesboro First Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Dan Williams and the Rev. Lawrence Houston. Burial was in East Side Cemetery.
