Ailey - Jean Cone Snooks, 90, died Thursday, February 5, 2015.

Born in Statesboro, Georgia, April 6, 1924, to the late Charles Emil Cone and Eugenia McLane Cone, she was the youngest of seven children. Mrs. Snooks graduated from Wesleyan Conservatory in Macon, Georgia, in 1945. After teaching high school drama and speech in Thomasville, she married Bartow Randolph Snooks of Ailey. They were married for 57 years before his passing in 2004. Mrs. Snooks was a member of the Ailey United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school and directed the annual Christmas program for many years. She was a charter member of the General Richard Montgomery Chapter NSDAC, a member of the Vidalia Chapter NSDAR and the Ailey Garden Club, and was the Chairman of the Montgomery County Library Board in the 1970s. She was the driving force behind the building of the current library facility. Her family and friends will remember her as being kind and caring, fun-loving and energetic, as well as a talented gardener. She is preceded in death by her husband, Bartow R. Snooks, and brothers: Charles, William, Ed and John Henry Cone; sisters: Margaret Tolbert, Catherine Tillotson, and Aldina Cassell.

Jean is survived by her three children: Bartow Randolph Snooks, III of Atlanta, Flora Catherine Snooks of Vidalia, Betty Cone Snooks Moses and Ray of Milton, Georgia; grandchildren: Anna Catherine Moses and Charles Daniel Moses; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, February 7th at 3:00 p.m. in the Ailey United Methodist Church with Reverend Brian Durden officiating. Burial will follow in the Peterson Cemetery in Ailey. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 5:00 until 7:00. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ailey United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 7, Ailey, GA 30410 or Wesleyan College, 4760 Forsyth Road, Macon, GA.
