Edward Oliver Cone

Mr. Edward Oliver Cone, age 96, passed away Saturday, September 13, 2014 at Willow Pond Assisted Living under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice.

Mr. Cone, a Bulloch County native, was the son of Charles E. and Mary Claudia Adams Cone. He was a graduate of Statesboro High School and the University of Georgia, with an Agricultural Engineering Degree. Mr. Cone served his country in World War II as a Major in the Aviation Engineering Company for the U.S. Army. He was a lifelong member and servant of First United Methodist Church, one of the founding members of the United Methodist Men, chairman of the Board of Trustees, Administrative Board and was the Sunday School Administrator for many years.

Mr. Cone worked for Concrete Products and after many years of working in the construction business, he became City Engineer with the City of Statesboro until his retirement. He was a recipient of the Deen Day Smith Service to Mankind Award, the Boy Scouts of America Silver Beaver Award and Good Scout Award. Mr. Cone served as a Boy Scout Troop Leader for Troop 332, affiliated with the Statesboro First United Methodist Church. He was a humble man who enjoyed fishing and gardening and his passion in life was to serve others.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Anne Whittle Cone, his step mother Eugenia McClain Cone; 3 brothers, Dr. John H. Cone, Charles Cone and James W. Cone; 3 sisters, Margaret Tolbert, Catherine Tilliston, and Aldina Cassell.

Surviving are one sister, Betty Jean Snooks, Vidalia; two sisters-in-law, Ida (Si) Waters, Statesboro and Bet Whittle Sheehan, Macon; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Tuesday 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Statesboro First United Methodist Church. The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of the Statesboro First United Methodist Church with Reverend Jimmy Cason officiating.

Active pallbearers will be Loy Waters, Lee Waters, Daniel Muldrew, Joseph Muldrew, John Waters and William Dantzler.
Burial will be in Eastside Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the staff at Willow Pond Assisted Living Home and the staff of Ogeechee Area Hospice for their Compassionate Care.
