Martin V. Adams was the sixth son of Ellington Adams and Elizabeth (Gorden) Adams. He was the brother of Isom, Joseph R., Randall Richard, George William, Robert James and John C. Adams as well as sisters Rachael (Rice), Martha (Bramblett) and Lucy Adams. Martin married Sarah Yocum on January 21, 1862 in Clay County, Indiana. They had two daughters; Mary Emma (Knowles), Lucy M. Adams (who died in infancy) and a son: Matthew Adams who also died in infancy. Martin was only 24 when he died in 1865. In 1866 Sarah Adams re-married to George Rice who had been married to Martin's older sister Rachel Adams who had died in 1857.
