There is a separate marker (shared stone with brother, Robert Lester Lee Hull, also buried at Margraten), in the family plot in Dunsmuir, Siskiyou County, California (Find A Grave memorial # 37600956). The family erected the cenotaph in Dunsmuir, because the location of Bill's grave was not known during his parents' lifetime.

Recently obtained military records indicate that Bill's plane crash landed in a snowy field on an island. The snow obscured a ditch that the plane hit as it touched down, resulting in the loss of all crew. Records for his military grave marker indicate an award of the Purple Heart.
