Clarence C. Bixler graduated from Weston High School and was employed at the Simplex Paper Corp.
He joined the Air Corps of the Regular Army in Detroit, Michigan on 28 October 1941.
He was the co- pilot on B-17 "Mr Five by Five" on a mission to bomb Bremen, Germany.
The airplane was last seen 10 kilometers west of Texel Island over the North Sea when it dropped out of formation with its wheels down. It appeared to be under control when last seen.
All ten crew members were killed. Only the body of the bombardier, 1st Lt John W. Hull, washed ashore on Terschelling Island, The Netherlands on 13 February 1944.
