Julia A. Kenyon was born in Centre (later Darlington), Lafayette County, Wisconsin. In 1869, the town of Centre became known as Darlington.

Julia was the daughter of Lyman and Melissa Kenyon, she married Samuel Penny, a farmer and later Town Marshal, who was born in Long Island, New York. She gave birth to a daughter, Julia Ann Penny, on 2 Mar 1872. She died giving birth to her only child. Her daughter, Julia Penny lived.

Julia and Samuel are shown on the 1870 census, Arcadia, Wisconsin. The spelling of Penny was indexed as Pery. Samuel Penny is head of household. This is listed on page 13 of 42 on the census (H/T Walter Eggert).

The photo at the right is believed to be her headstone, with the initials, J.P. It is located within the Kenyon family plot. The smaller headstone is believed to be that of her brother, Lyman Kenyon, Jr., who was a child when he preceded her in death.
