Henry was born in 1866 in Scott County, Iowa where he lived with his parents. They moved to Chickasaw County, Iowa when he was a boy. He attended public and parochial schools and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. After his marriage to Clara Burgart on April 29, 1896, he rented 80 acres of his father's farm for six years. In 1900, he purchased a farm of 160 acres in section 20. The farm buildings were in poor condition and he made many improvements by adding modern farm buildings. This resulted in one of the most improved properties in Chickasaw county. Henry was also a stockholder in the New Hampton Farmers' Creamery Association and a member of the Chickasaw County Equity Cooperative Association. Those surviving him are his wife Clara; Olivia E., the wife of Charles Shiek, of Waterloo, Iowa; Wilfrid W., who married Viania Kearns and operate the home farm in Chickasaw county, and Lucena M. and Clair H., still at home.
