Funeral services held in Afton for Ida Merritt
Ida Taysom Merritt, 80, longtime Afton resident, died at the Logan Hospital, Logan, Utah, Friday, April 18, 1975.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, April 23 1975, at 1 p.m. in the Afton Second-Third Ward Chapel with Bp. Lynn Nield of the Third Ward conducting. Burial was in the Afton City Cemetery.
Ida was born Aug. 2, 1894, at Rockland, Idaho, a daughter of Abram J. and Hannah Nield Taysom.
While still a young child her family came to Star Valley, Wyo., and Afton became her home. She married Therin Merritt, June 10, 1920 in the Salt Lake Temple.
She was taken to Logan, Utah two years ago, to be close to her family because of ill health.
She was active in the LDS Church, and served in many various auxiliaries including over 50 years in the Primary Organization. She loved and admired every officer and teacher whom she worked with during the two years she was Primary president. She especially loved the children and always had a soft spot in her heart for the Guide class.
To Ida, her family and friends were the dearest part of her life. She especially appreciated everyone's kindness and concern during her illness.
She is survived by her husband, Therin; two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Elayne) Cooper, Salt Lake City, Utah, and Mrs. Denzel (LaRue) Wood, Logan, Utah: six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, two sisters and a granddaughter.
