A.J. Taysom passed away at his residence in Afton, Friday morning at 8 p.m. He has been failing in health for several years on account of heart trouble and high blood pressure. A few weeks ago he contracted the flu from which he never fully recovered. During his illness he was kind and patient, never complained about his suffering, which became very intense at times.
Mr Taysom was born at Salt Lake City, February 10th 1856. At about 15 years of age he moved with his fathers family to Meadow, Millard Co, Utah, where he grew up to manhood, sharing the early tricks of pioneering in southern Utah. On July 13th 1879 he was united in marriage with Hannah Nield, oldest daughter of John Nield. To this union was born seven children, four boys and three girls. One son, Bp Gilbert Taysom and two daughters have preceded him to the other side. His aged wife and the following children are left to mourn his passing; A.D, Joe and John Taysom and Mrs Ida T. Merritt all of Afton, also 23 grandchildren.
In the year 1879 Mr Taysom pioneered Southern Idaho, locating at Rockland, where he became a successful farmer and cattle-man. In the spring of 1889 he joined the Nield family and came to Star Valley to make a new home here he again succeeded in the ranch and cattle business. Mr Taysom never sought public office. He served several terms as trustee of Afton Public Schools. He also served for several years as counselor to the president of the elders quorum in Star Valley Stake. He was a liberal donator to causes he felt were worthy. Mr Taysom was one of the committee of three to arrange for and select a place for the construction of the south Ward chapel. He supported three sons on missions of over two years each. He possessed a firm faith in the mission of the Prophet Joseph Smith.
Funeral services were held in the South Ward Chapel Sunday at 1:30 p.m. Bp George Kennington in charge and first counselor Ben Nield conducting. The flowers were most beautiful. Appropriate music was furnished by the choir under the leadership of A.P. Clark and a vocal solo by Mrs Luelle Call and a quartet by the Gardner Bros.
The speakers were Bp. Heman Hyde, President Clarence Gardner and Bp George Kennington. All speaking in terms of praise of the honest upright life of Elder Taysom, whose word was his bond.
Prayers were offered by B.O. Gardner and C.C. Leavitt.
The Grave in the city cemetery was dedicated by Jos E. Linford.
