Georgia Ward (nee Hodnett) was born April 30, 1845, in Lagrange, Troup County, Georgia to parents Lovic Pierce Hodnett and Mary Jane Hodnett (nee Traylor). Georgia's maternal grandparents were John Traylor and Nancy Traylor (nee Hales). Georgia's paternal grandfather was Benjamin Hodnett, Revolutionary Soldier. Georgia's mother, Mary Jane Hodnett (nee Traylor), was her father's first wife and according to family tradition is buried in a family cemetery (Hodnett or Traylor?) somewhere near Long Cane, Troup County, Georgia. Georgia's father, Lovic Pierce Hodnett, is buried in Armstrong Cemetery, Macon County, Alabama.

Georgia married Stephen Ward, son of Enos Wesley Ward and Mary Ward (nee Roland)in February, 1862. According to the Stephen Ward-Georgia Hodnett Family Bible the wedding was at the home of her father. The marriage was recorded in Fulton County, Georgia. At the time, her father was married to his second wife, Serena Hodnett (nee Thames), who was from that area; thus, it seems likely that the family may have lived in the area for the wedding to have been recorded in Fulton County rather than Troup County as has long been assumed by descendants.

Georgia and Stephen first settled in Harris County, Georgia, where their first child, William Henry Edgar Ward, was born. By the birth of their second child, Mary Adele Corene Ward, in September, 1865, they had relocated to Freedonia, Chambers County, Alabama where their remaining seven children were born. All eight of Georgia's and Stephen's children survived to adulthood, married, and had children of their own. All eight children are now deceased and all known grandchildren (a total of thirty one) who survived to adulthood are now deceased.

Children of Stephen Ward and Georgia Hodnett:

William Edgar Ward
Mary Adele Wise (nee Ward)
John Robert Ward
Ras Olin Ward
Champion Stephen Ward
Annie Mae Waller (nee Ward)
Thomas Traylor Ward
George Bernard Ward

Around 1887, Georgia apparently left Stephen and with seven of her eight children moved to rural Loachapoka, Lee County, Alabama near the Asbury Methodist Episcopal Church (Pine Knot). This location was within a couple of miles "as the crow flies" of her father, Lovic Pierce Hodnett, and brothers, Edward and Robert who had settled in nearby Macon County, Alabama. Entries in the Asbury Church membership rolls show Georgia and some of her older children joining the Asbury Church in Lee County, Alabama by certificate of transfer in 1887. Stephen's and Georgia's oldest daughter, Mary Adele Ward had married in 1885 and settled in Villa Rica, Coweta County, Georgia with her husband John Lee Wise. Stephen remained in Fredonia until his death in January, 1892.

According to the booklet "Sunrise-Sunset: The Waller - Ward - Hodnette Family", Georgia Hodnette Ward "died March 29, 1911, while visiting her son John Ward, school principal, then living in Scottsborough, Ala." Although Alabama state law required a death certificate be filed after 1908, no such record can be found to substantiate the place of her death. The date of death is confirmed in both the Family Bible and her tombstone in Loachapoka Cemetery, Lee County, Alabama.
