George Bernard (Bernard)Ward, Sr. was born March 26, 1880, in Freedonia, Chambers County, Alabama to parents Stephen Ward and Georgia Ward (nee Hodnett). Bernard was the youngest of their eight children. His paternal grandparents were Enos Wesley Ward and Mary Ward (nee Roland). His maternal grandparents were Lovic Pierce Hodnett and Mary Jane Hodnett (nee Traylor).

Bernard moved to Loachapoka, Lee County, Alabama around 1887 with his mother and other siblings. Geo. B. Ward joined the church at Asbury Chapel Lee Co. [Alabama] under the pastorage of A. J. Cousins, Jan 1889. G. B. Ward was on Last Membership Roll in the Ledger of Asbury Church [Lee County, Alabama] for Years 1914-1916.

On January 19, 1910, George Bernard Ward married Goldie (Goldie) Marie Glass, daughter of Matthew Wallace Glass and Helen Peverly Glass (nee Dumas) in Opelika, Lee County, Alabama.

Bernard and Goldie had eight known children, all born in Lee County, Alabama:

George Bernard Ward died May 26, 1957, in Dadeville, Tallapoosa County, Alabama and is buried in Pine Hill Cemetery, Auburn, Lee County, Alabama as is his wife Goldie Marie Ward (nee Glass).
