Mary Adele Corene Ward was born September 7, 1865 in Chambers County, Alabama to parents Stephen Ward and Georgia Ward (nee Hodnett). Her paternal grandparents were Enos Wesley Ward and Mary Ward (nee Roland). Her maternal grandparents were Lovic Pierce Hodnett and Mary Jane Hodnett (nee Traylor). She joined the Methodist Episcopal Church of Fredonia, Chambers County, Alabama under the pastorage of T. K. Pierce in 1884.

Mary Adele Ward married John Lee Wise of Villa Rica, Georgia on January 1, 1885, near Fredonia, Alabama. The ceremony was performed by Reverend T. K. Pierce. John Lee Wise was the son of John Wise and Hester Ann Wise (nee Hamrick).

John Lee Wise and Mary Adele Wise (nee Ward) had six children, one son who died young and five daughters:

Unknown Son Wise (died young)
Nora Lee Truss(nee Wise)
Mary Belle Ziegler(nee Wise)
Rilla Mae Murrell(nee Wise)
Florence Estelle Rigby(nee Wise)
Helen Louella Gardner(nee Wise)

John Lee Wise and Mary Adele Wise (nee Ward) initially settled in Villa Rica, Coweta County, Georgia. By the 1910 U. S. census they were in Loachapoka, Lee County, Alabama with with all five daughters. The census shows that their oldest daughter was born in Georgia and the remaining four were born in Alabama which would imply that the family moved to Alabama between 1885 when Nora Lee Wise was born and 1891 when Mary Belle Wise was born.

Mary Adele Wise (nee Ward) died March 3, 1924, and is buried in Pine Hill Cemetery, Auburn, Lee County, Alabama as is her husband, John Lee Wise, and some of her children.
