Today In G. Coteau


Edwin S. Smith, 68-year old livelong resident of Grand Coteau, died at his residence there at 12:01 a.m. today, and a requiem high mass will be held at 9 a.m. tomorrow.

Services will be at the Sacred Heart church and cemetery in Grand Coteau, with Lafond and Son in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Smith was a retired merchant and funeral director. He was a member of the Holy Name Society in Grand Coteau. He died after an illness of two weeks.

Mrs. Smith, the former Alice Durio, survives, as do four daughters; Miss Myrtle Smith, Grand Coteau; Mrs. Cyrus Roy, Arnaudville; Mrs. P. J. Breaux, Lafayette; and Mrs. H. E. Harper, Sunset. Also surviving are a sister, Miss Lily Smith, Sunset, and two brothers, Theo and Esmond Smith, both of Sunset, as well as three grandchildren.

OPELOUSAS, -- Edwin S. Smith 68, retired merchant and funeral director died this morning at his home in Grand Coteau.

Funeral services have been set for 9:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Sacred Heart Catholic church in Grand Coteau at a Requiem Mass. Interment will follow in the adjacent cemetery, with Lafond and Son in charge.

The deceased was a native and lifelong resident of Grand Coteau and a member of the Sacred Heart Holy Name society. He is survived by his widow, the former Aline Durio of Grand Coteau; four daughters, Miss Myrtle Smith of Grand Coteau, Mrs. Cyrus Roy of Arnaudville, Mrs. F. J. Breaux of Lafayette and Mrs. H. N. Harper of Sunset; a sister, Miss Lilly Smith of Sunset, and two brothers, Theo and Esmond Smith both of Sunset.
