LAFAYETTE -- Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Mass on Monday, June 23, 2003, in Evangeline Memorial Gardens Chapel in Carencro for Mrs. Pearly P.J. Breaux, 90, the former Leona Smith, who died Saturday, June 21, 2003, at 8 a.m. at here residence in Lafayette.

Interment will be in the St. Charles Borromeo Cemetery in Grand Coteau.

Musical selections will be provided by Charlotte Jopling, accompanied by Phyllis Simar on the organ. The songs will be "Amazing Grace," "Ave Maria," "Here I Am Lord" and "How Great Thou Art."

Mrs. Breaux was a native of Grand Coteau and a resident of Lafayette for most of her life. She was a teacher in the Lafayette and St. Landry Parish school systems for many years. She was a member of CODOFIL. the Crew De Zeus Mardi Gras Association, the Ladies Auxiliary for the Louisiana Cattleman's Association and the Louisiana Shorthorn Cattleman's Association for many years. She was also very active in numerous civic organizations. She was a parishioner of St. Jules Church.

Survivors include two sons___,___ one daughter, ___.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Pearly P.J. Breaux; her parents, Edwin Smith and the former Aline Durio; and three sisters, Myrtle Smith, Minnie Roy and Edwina Louviere.

The family would like to give special thanks to Ms. Breaux's caregivers, Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center and Hospice of Acadiana.

Memorial contributions in the name of Leona Smith Breaux may be made to Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnston St. Ste. 200, Lafayette, La 70503-3240.

A rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. today in the funeral home.

The family request that visiting hours be observed from 3 p.m. until 9 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. until service time Monday.

Melancon Funeral Home, Evangeline Memorial Gardens Chapel, 4117 N. University Ave., Carencro, (337) 896-3232, is in charge of arrangements.
